Velliste confesses: the government of Estonia was involved in weapons transports

The Vice Chairman of the Constitutional Committee of the Estonian Parliament, Evelyn Sepp, considers Pro Patria Union (Isamaaliit) and the former Prime Minister Mart Laar responsible for carrying out sneaky business of transporting military technology and links it to the real reasons behind the sinking of Estonia.

Sepp said Trivimi Velliste's confession during today's final hearing of the weapon's commission, came to her as a complete surprise. "Velliste said he had known all along that the government of Estonia was involved in weapons transports on the passenger ferry Estonia."

"Velliste also said that he knew the people who had arranged the smuggling and people who were aware of it," Sepp added.

Velliste as a member of the investigative commission, has concealed this information from the parliament, and thus been lying to the whole Estonian people, according to Sepp.

In addition to Mart Laar, also Juhan Parts, and Andrus Ansip, have claimed that Estonian state did not participate in the military transfers on Estonia and has no knowledge of it.

All the members of the special parliamentary commission have the access to state secrets. This means that if such a co-operation was official and in the interests of the Estonian state, then concealing this information from the commission would not be legal nor justified, according to Sepp.

"This is simply scandalous," Sepp said. "The Parliament is no place for such liars."

The ministers involved in the weapons smuggling knowingly put the lives of thousands of passengers at risk and created a situation which lead to the sinking of Estonia and the loss of at least 852 people. These ministers are complicit in a crime against humanity, according to Sepp.

Mart Laar is lying again and again and receives his compensation for his silence from a Swedish bank on whose board he sits, as well as through the Milton Friedman Award reaching millions that he recently received for promoting free trade.

The Riigikogu Committee of Investigation to Ascertain the Circumstances Related to the Export of Military Equipment from the Territory of the Republic of Estonia on the Ferry Estonia in 1994 finished its work today.
